Report on Mixed Methods 188体育平台 Workshop

Pillar II- Exemplary 188体育平台 and Innovation, 188体育平台 College of Nursing (MCON) 188体育平台 organized a two-day Mixed Methods 188体育平台 (MMR) workshop, from July 17th to 18th, 2023, at the Medical Education Department classroom, MAHE. 53 participants attended the workshop, including faculty members and research scholars from different institutions in India. The workshop aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 4, Quality Education.

The day's event began with the inauguration of the workshop by Dr. Satish Rao, Director-research, MAHE, and Director-188体育平台 School of Life Sciences, MAHE. He addressed on the importance of research publication and highlighted Mixed Methods 188体育平台; he shared that research should be contagious. The organizing chair and Pillar II head, Dr. Baby S. Nayak, welcomed the participants and introduced the Chief Guest. Dr. Sulochana B, Associate Professor, MCON, 188体育平台, the convenor of the workshop, briefed on the mixed methods research workshop. Dr. Judith Angelitta Noronha, Dean of 188体育平台 College of Nursing 188体育平台 addressed the participants regarding the importance of mixed methods methodology. The inaugural program concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Mitchelle Lewis, Lecturer, Department of Fundamentals of Nursing, MCON, 188体育平台.

The First session of the day, the introduction to mixed methods research, was delivered by Dr. Linu Sara George, Professor, and Head, Department of Fundamentals of Nursing, MCON, 188体育平台. She elaborated on mixed methods research, methodological characteristics, advantages, and challenges. Dr. Shradha S. Parsekar, an independent research consultant, delivered the second session on mixed methods research study design. She focused on the rationale of using mixed methods, data collection strategies, and various MMR designs. The post-lunch session on developing a protocol for mixed methods research was delivered by Dr. Anupama D S, 188体育平台 Fellow Department of Global Health Governance, Prasanna School of Public Health MAHE, 188体育平台. She emphasized the steps of protocol development, including the conceptual framework. The last session of the day was a hands-on session on developing goals and protocol for a mixed methods study facilitated by Mr. Anil Raj, Assistant Professor, Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing, MCON 188体育平台, and Ms. Mitchelle S Lewis, Lecturer, Department of Fundamentals of Nursing,

MCON, 188体育平台. Participants were taken for a campus tour by Dr. Sulochana B. It included visiting various places like the experience theatre of MAHE, endpoint, and the MIT campus.

Day 2 - The Day 2 of the workshop began with a fresh note by the moderator Ms. Prathibha, Ph.D. Scholar, MCON, 188体育平台. Dr. Baby S Nayak gave a short recap of the previous days’ sessions and an introduction to the sessions for day two.

The First session of the day, basics of quantitative analysis-parametric and non-parametric tests, was delivered by Dr Ravisankar N, Assistant Professor Department of Biostatistics Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute University of Delhi. He delivered the session on parametric and non-parametric tests of analysis. The second session, basics of qualitative analysis, was delivered by Dr. Mamatha Pai, Professor, Department of Child Health Nursing, MCON 188体育平台. She discussed on transcribing, developing a category scheme, coding, and forming sub-themes, themes, and challenges faced by the researcher. She also conducted hand on sessions on Qualitative Analysis. The third session of the day, mixed methods analysis and interpretation-integration of quantitative and qualitative results was delivered by Dr. Vishnu Renjith, Lecturer School of Nursing and Midwifery Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland. He discussed the steps of integration of data, interpretation types, strategies, and mixed methods research appraisal tools. The fourth session of the day, reporting and writing a mixed methods research paper, was delivered by Dr. Maryann Washington, Professor, Division of Epidemiology Biostatistics & Population Health St. John’s 188体育平台 Institute, Bengaluru. She focused on reporting guidelines for MMR. The last session of the day was a hands-on session on the analysis of MMR facilitated by Dr. Vishnu Renjith. The workshop ended with handing over the certificates to participants, followed by concluding remarks, and ended the two-day workshop.

Participant Feedback: Overall, the workshop was practical as we got positive responses from participants in feedback forms. Participants mentioned that workshop was well organized, MMR contents were well covered, and all the speaker's contents were appropriate and very informative as per their topics.?The suggestion given by participants was to plan various other research webinars.
